Microsoft announces its decision to eliminate the use of internet explorer in its 365 apps. They announced that this is to take effect from this year, on November 30 where the Microsoft Teams web app will finally stop allowing the use of Internet Explorer 11.

Although they revealed that full support for Internet Explorer 11 will finally stop on August 17, 2021. Hence, whats the effect of this update on your Microsoft package.

The company said that ‘they understand the need to “do more with less” in the new business environment. By the dates listed above, customers should no longer access Microsoft 365 apps and services using IE 11. However they want to be clear that IE 11 isn’t going away1 and that our customers’ own legacy IE 11 apps and investments will continue to work.’

DEGRADED EXPERIENCE

Microsoft reveals that if you’re using IE11 by August 17, 2021, you will have a “degraded experience,”  and may be unable to connect to 365 apps directly. This in turn affects your convenience. That’s why its highly advisable to update your Microsoft 365 apps.

HIGHER PRODUCTIVITY

Also, you’ll be able to achieve better productivity and more multitasking functions on this new Microsoft and Internet Explorer package, that is this moment of bridging between modern and legacy apps, many customers may feel there is no choice but to rely on a two-browser workaround of using IE 11 alongside a modern browser.

However, with the new Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer mode, customers don’t need an awkward usage of both apps separately. They can standardize on one browser and seamlessly experience the best of the modern web in one tab. This is housed within the new Microsoft Edge. Microsoft relayed this in its official statement.

Internet Explorer 11 is among its many component of the Windows operating system and follows the Lifecycle Policy for the product on which it is installed.

MICROSOFT EDGE UPGRADE

In addition to that, Microsoft has announced that its “Edge Legacy” desktop app will reach its official end-of-life date on March 9, 2021.

Practically speaking, this means the browser will stop receiving new security updates. However, it will continue to support 365 products for the foreseeable future.

Revealing that the new Microsoft Edge from the inside out is: a browser built on the Chromium open-source engine with the latest in Microsoft enterprise capabilities.

This is not a new product for Microsoft as the company started developing the new software two years ago. The new Microsoft Edge is therefore a blend of security, privacy, easy and unified manageability, and productivity.

Also note, using Internet Explorer mode in the new Microsoft Edge will not help to extend Internet Explorer 11’s access to Microsoft 365 apps and services beyond the dates listed. Hence it is important to update both apps.

Business professionals are not left out of this upgrade. The company specifically stated that ‘at a time when IT professionals are being asked to do more with less on an unprecedented level. They intend to make it simple for our customers to balance productivity, security, privacy, and cost.
